A long-time industry stalwart, Art has been worked with tennis courts, running tracks, and adjacent asphalt applications for over 40 years.
His first foray into the industry was as a Regional Manager for Van Sumner Inc., a North Carolina-based installer of tennis courts. He left after 5 years to join Koch Asphalt Co. in 1979 to produce pavement maintenance and tennis court coatings. Following 4 years at Koch, he moved to the Boston-area where he began a 32 year career at California Products Corporation (now ICP Group) as VP of Recreational Products.
Throughout his career at California Products, Art directed a team that developed dozens of new products that have become commonplace in today's sporting arenas in the US, Canada, Asia, Australia, and Europe. His team developed proprietary latex track materials (now an industry standard), developed improved ITF testing for tennis court pace ratings, introduced a variety of industry-firsts in cushioned playing surfaces, and worked to build the thriving industry landscape we enjoy today. He was an active board member of the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) and remains an honorary lifetime member.
Art graduated with a degree in history from The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in 1970 and served in the United States Navy reaching the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. He resides in Andover, MA with his wife, Madeline, and enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with family.
